About Annabelle
Based in Southampton and London
Annabelle is a freelance musician specialising in experimental, avant-garde, and classical music. Her unique perspective as a musician with a disability has shaped her research in music and disability studies. Through her music, Annabelle aims to challenge traditional norms and create an inclusive space for all musicians and audiences.
Annabelle recieved her formal training at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with a BMus(Hon) in Music Performance, studying under Melanie Henry and Gerard McCrystal. She continues to perform as a soloist, with orchestras and chamber groups, and has worked with multiple composers, including world debuts. In the last year, Annabelle has focused on academic writing and research in music and disability studies. She is often attending conferences and making connections with charities and organisations that support and pave the way for disabled musicians to have equity in the music and education industry.
In May, she published her first saxophone study book. "The Big Book of Saxophone Scales" is for all saxophonists and designed for those with dyslexia, dyspraxia and anyone who learns a little differently for whatever reason in mind. It includes all the scales and arpeggios one might need for the full range of the saxophone, extending into altissimo. Saxophonist
Annabelle is a virtuosos solo and chamber musician, specialising on Soprano, Alto and Baritone. - it's nothing personal towards the Tenor.
She loves to play with extremes, working with composers and has experience in performing on both Soprinino and Bass Saxophone too.
Researcher and Educator
'Where are the other disabled musicians?' is a question Annabelle often thought about as she came to the end of her undergraduate degree. About to step into the real world, she couldn't see herself reflected in the musicians we all know and love. So she sought to find answers and solutions to the lack of representation, with the focus on bringing an audience to body-diverse performers through changing perceptions and developing music education for disabled students.
